3D silicone molds are a great way to create eye-catching chocolate figures for cakes and desserts. Even if you are not an experienced cake decorator,
they make it much easier to achieve clean details and a polished final look.
Because these molds are made of two parts, they allow you to create a full 3D figure that can stand upright on a cake or dessert.
At the same time, they are also flexible in another way. If you want a flatter decoration instead of a standing figure,
you can simply use the front half of the mold on its own and place the finished piece flat on top of a cake.
STEP 1: MELT YOUR CHOCOLATE
For this method, I recommend using compound chocolate. It is the easiest option to work with because it melts smoothly, does not require tempering,
and is much simpler to use for detailed molds like these.
Melt your chocolate gently in short intervals until smooth and fluid. If you would like to color it, make sure to use oil-soluble food coloring only,
since water-based colors can cause chocolate to seize.

STEP 2: CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO ADD COLOR
There are a few different ways to color chocolate when working with 3D silicone molds.
The easiest option is to use just one color for the whole mold. This gives a clean, simple, monochromatic look and works beautifully on its own.
If you want more detail, you can pipe small amounts of colored chocolate into the necessary areas using a piping bag with a very tiny opening.
This works especially well for details such as a teddy bear’s eyes and nose, pink hearts on the feet, or colorful parts like a unicorn’s mane and tail.
Another option is to fill the mold using only one chocolate color, preferably white, and then paint the details after demolding
using powder colors mixed with a little clear alcohol, such as vodka.
This method gives you more control over the final design and is especially useful when you want to add several colors after unmolding.

STEP 3: FILL THE MOLD
First, you will need to put the two parts of the mold together. For that you have pins and holes on each part of the mold that fits
perfectly into each other, helping attach the two parts in the correct place.
Then use the rubber bands to secure the two parts to each other. Tie the band on the top, bottom and middle of the mold.
Once your chocolate is ready, fill the mold carefully. Fill the mold in three inclusions and make sure to tap after each filling so that the chocolate can get
into all the small details and remove air bubbles.
If you are using more than one color, pipe the small details first and then continue with your main chocolate color.
This helps keep the design neat and gives you better control over small features.

STEP 4: FREEZE
Place the filled mold in the freezer for about 20 minutes so the chocolate can set properly.
STEP 5: UNMOLD
After removing the mold from the freezer, let it sit at room temperature for about 3–4 minutes before unmolding.
This is an important step because it allows the silicone to soften slightly, making it less stiff and easier to peel away from the chocolate.
This helps the figure release more cleanly and reduces the chance of damaging smaller details.

STEP 6: STORE UNTIL READY TO USE
Once unmolded, keep your chocolate decoration in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
